1. Selecting a Color Scheme

When it comes to decorating a small space one of the most important things to keep in mind is the color scheme. In order for your decor to feel cohesive you will want to keep a consistent color scheme throughout so that your decor does not feel disconnected. In a small space each piece of decor makes an impact, so sticking to a particular color scheme is even more important. You can go neutral and decorate with greens, golds, champagnes, and silvers or go BOLD and decorate with red! Whatever color scheme you choose ensure that this is the theme you use throughout the home. This will make your small space feel bigger and tied together!

This year I chose a neutral color scheme, lots of greens, whites, touches of fawn, gold, champagne, and silver!

Neutral pieces like this Christmas sign from the Third & Main Holiday bundle pair perfectly with whatever color scheme you choose.

More Neutrals! Pops of pink work well and pair nicely with gold, silver, and champagne.

2. Keeping The Clutter Away

When decorating a smaller space less is more! You want to aim for simplicity so that your space doesn’t feel cluttered. It is important to select meaningful decor pieces and not over-doing it otherwise your space can go from tasteful to over-the-top in an instant! When shopping for Christmas Decor think twice about adding new pieces to your collection. Is this item just a trend? Will I use it next year? Classic pieces that you can use each season will help to keep your space clutter free. I also like to clean out all of my “everyday decor” to make room for Christmas decor. This frees up more space for the Holiday Season and allows your new Christmas decor pieces to really shine!

3. Choosing Items That Fit Your Small Space

The arguably most important thing to keep in mind is to choose items that fit your space. Half the time I find myself at Home Goods and fall in love with something, just to bring it home and realize it looks too big in the small room that I am decorating. When shopping for a tree I wanted something that looked full and beautiful but was narrow enough to fit in my space. An oversize tree can easily make a small room feel even smaller, so selecting the right size is very important. The same goes for decor, stockings, pillows etc! Keep in mind when shopping for this holiday season how big your space is and if a particular item will actually fit or not. My home is 885 Sq Ft. so sometimes it can be a struggle to find the right decor. Don’t rush it! It may take time to find the right pieces for your home but in the long run this will give you the most put together & beautiful curated decor collection.
